Dallas Halloween Shootings Leave 4 Dead, 15 Injured as Federal Authorities Launch New Security Operation
DALLAS — November 3, 2026 — Three shootings across Dallas' Deep Ellum entertainment district during Halloween celebrations left four people dead and approximately 15 others injured, prompting a major police investigation and a new federal security operation.
According to Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux, investigators are examining the three crime scenes and reviewing evidence to determine what triggered the violence. Federal prosecutors announced a coordinated enforcement initiative on November 2.
The first shooting was reported at approximately 12:20 a.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of Elm Street, where five people were shot.
A second incident occurred around 1:05 a.m. in the 2600 block of Main Street. Three people died in that shooting.
At approximately 1:35 a.m., officers responded to a third shooting in the 200 block of South Crowdus Street, where another person was killed.

The incidents occurred only blocks apart in Deep Ellum, a district known for restaurants, bars and live entertainment.
Police closed several streets while emergency personnel treated victims and investigators began gathering evidence.
Dallas police had deployed additional officers to Deep Ellum in anticipation of large Halloween crowds.
Comeaux said officers were positioned close enough to respond rapidly when gunfire erupted. Some officers performed emergency medical assistance, including efforts that revived at least one victim.
Comeaux said detectives were examining whether the shootings were related but had evidence establishing a connection.
On November 2, U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould announced Operation Deep Cover, a coordinated initiative involving federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
The operation aims to strengthen enforcement against violent crime in Deep Ellum following the Halloween shootings.
Participating agencies include the U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations, Texas authorities and Dallas police.
Federal prosecutors also announced a firearm charge against Treyveion Dionte Demby, a convicted felon accused of possessing a gun.
That allegation remains subject to the criminal justice process.
The Justice Department presented the case as an example of conduct targeted by the initiative, not proof that Demby participated in the Halloween shootings.
Crucially, Operation Deep Cover was announced after the violence, rather than identified as its cause.
The shootings have raised questions about security in crowded nightlife districts and the challenges officers face when multiple violent incidents occur within minutes.
Police have interviewed witnesses, pursued suspects and collected surveillance footage from nearby businesses.
Authorities are also examining physical evidence from the shooting locations.
Dallas officials have condemned the violence, while community organizations are offering support to affected families.
For now, the central unanswered question is what caused three deadly incidents to unfold so close together despite an increased police presence.
